About Our Doctors
Drs. Toothman and Barra’s offices, located in Chambersburg PA and Hagerstown MD, are known for quality patient care, cutting edge technology and modern, cheerful facilities. The doctors and staff keep current in all areas of orthodontics by frequently attending continuing education courses. They are knowledgeable about all modern orthodontic appliances; including clear braces, Invisalign, self-ligating braces, distalization techniques and functional appliances.
Drs. Toothman & Barra have extensive experience in growth and development procedures and surgical orthodontics. In addition, the doctors are trained in treatment of T.M.J. dysfunctional problems.
Dr. Toothman
Dr. Ronald Toothman has been practicing orthodontics exclusively since 1977. He received his B.A. from Lehigh University and his D.M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Toothman spent two years practicing orthodontics with his father prior to completing his orthodontic specialty training at the Eastman Dental Center.
Dr. Toothman is an active member of the national and constituent societies of the American dental association and the American association of orthodontists. He is also a diplomat of the American board of ortheodontics. In addition, he is a member of the Schulman study group, which is limited to 125 top orthodontic practitioners in the country.
Dr. Toothman and his wife, Colleen, have two sons, a married daughter and one grandson and three granddaughters. They are active in their church and enjoy boating, snow skiing and traveling.
Dr. Barra
Dr. Tom Barra has been practicing orthodontics exclusively since 1985. He received his BS degree from Syracuse University in 1978 and his D.D.S degree from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1983. He also completed his orthodontic specialty training at Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1985.
Dr. Barra is an active member of the National and Constituent Societies of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Barra and his wife, Joan, have three sons and a daughter. They are active in church and local civic organizations. They enjoy outdoor sports, travel and time with family and friends.
